Eva Longoria Will Portray Diva TV star in NBC Miniseries “Telenovela”

Miss seeing Devious Maids Executive Producer Eva Longoria on your screens? Well, here are good news for you!

NBC kicked off its time at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour with news that Desperate Housewives alum Eva Longoria would star in a 13-episode miniseries called Telenovela.

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said Telenovela would offer a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the making of a telenovela. Longoria will produce and star as a beautiful diva and star of a popular telenovela.
Telenovela is a half-hour single-camera comedy series hailing from Cougar Town co-executive producer Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein and Universal Television, where Longoria’s Unbelievable Entertainment is under an overall deal. The comedy was one of two projects that Longoria was eyeing to star, with an untitled comedy also in contention at ABC. Longoria was said to have a series commitment attached to the NBC project.

Don’t Expect to See Eva Longoria on ‘Devious Maids’ Soon

Eva Longoria recently talked about her success as a ‘Devious Maids’ Producer and how she won’t be on camera for Season 3.

Although the show’s producers have been pushing for her to do more on Devious Maids, she tells the Irish Independent we may have to wait for another show next year before she gets back to acting. She would prefer Devious Maids to stay solely as producer/director accomplishment.

Of course everyone would love to see her guest-star on the show… Maybe as her famous ‘Desperate Housewives’ character, Gaby, or an interesting new addiction to the Devious Maids world. I guess only time will tell. Marc Cherry told Deadline earlier this year that he would love to write a part for Eva eventually:

“As far as the cameo, I want to use her (Eva) at some point in the show, and I don’t want to use her as a cameo. I want her to come play a big juicy part. So, we’re looking for the right story line to do that with. She’s a secret weapon I’m holding behind my back and waiting to use it.”

Marc Cherry & Sabrina Wind to Produce “The Phantom of the Opera” TV Series for ABC

ABC has ordered a pilot script for the Desperate Housewives mastermind’s modern reimagining of Gaston Leroux’s gothic novel The Phantom of the Opera, one that will be set “in the sexy and cutthroat world of the modern-day music business.”

The potential series will not be a musical, but the one-hour scripted drama will contain musical elements (a la the network’s country-music sudser Nashville), according to ABC reps.

The Phantom of the Opera pilot script will be written by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Broadway’s First Date), with Cherry and partner Sabrina Wind serving as Executive Producers on the project.

Earlier this month, Cherry scored a pilot script deal for Cheerleader Death Squad at The CW.
